Independence Day

Independence DayI really like this movie. I've watched it many times and enjoy it every time. I know there are plenty of improbabilities, but the essence of the film is captivating. A world-wide cooperative effort to ensure the survival of humans from an aggressive alien species. Some of us always wonder if we're alone in the universe. Imagine if we weren't. Could this happen? Could we save ourselves? Lots of wondering inspired by this movie. There's also a great cast, incredible special effects, and a few laughs to lighten up the more serious moments. Reality aside, this movie leaves you with a spark of hope that perhaps in the right circumstances, peace among nations is possible. Perhaps that's just wishful thinking.

I agree. This movie...despite its implausible moments (and there are more than a few of those)...is fun to watch and the underlying message is a noble one.
Nice review indeed.

I feel satisfied in knowing that if and when aliens attack, we'll be able to upload a mac virus to their system and bring them down.

It's probably one of the more reasonable descriptions of aliens - no visiting or coming in peace, just die and give us your land (certainly reflects how humans act).

We had to leave the theater because it scared our son too much.

But the ending falls apart - the people are way to happy - remember how everyone felt after Sept 11th, now multiply that by a few billion. Nobody would be smiling...
