Open Water

Open WaterSurprising. Especially the end. Based on the events documented here. I hadn't read much about this movie before seeing it, had only seen a preview in a movie theater and really expected a typical Hollywood ending. Nope. Surprise. Some scary moments and a few hopeful ones. Definitely changes my perception of such things (like scuba diving, being on a boat full of strangers in a vacation setting).

This movie was fantastic! I am all for Indie films, but this one caught me off guard. At first watch I wasn't too impressed. So I called my sister and we watched it together and she too was unsure how she felt. Then we watched the bonus features and fell in love. Number one, these people were REALLY in the water with these sharks. REALLY. *shivers* And it is your basic I-have-a-dream-and-no-budget-to-make-this-film kinda dream. So it takes years of shooting on the weekend, and they go to the film festival with high hopes, but major caution. And the thing took off. Taking everyone by surprise. Better than winning the lottery. I loved the story behind the film so much, it made the film 10 times better than it really is. I would encourage everyone to go see this film. But it even so you get all the behind the scenes things. You won't be sorry.

I loved this film. For someone whose greatest fear is not being able to touch the bottom of the swimming pool with their feet, this was the ultimate in terror.
